Advising

ITP Professor Tim Brown Advising

Initial and Professional Advising

ITP's Deputy Director, Elizabeth Golder, is the initial academic advisor for all incoming ITP students. Ms. Golder also supports students with professional advising. Her knowledge encompasses current industry trends, professional presentation, interview skills, and strategic planning. Appointment requests for advising should be delivered via email and include the topic for discussion. We encourage you to take advantage of this service.

Academic Advising

For general questions about course selection and focus areas within the Program, students should feel free to talk to the relevant faculty. Every student needs to have an approved Degree Plan in order to graduate, and students should complete one in their first semester. To have your Degree Plan approved see the Degree Plan page or for general academic advising contact professor David Reed either via email or in person during his office hours.

Independent Study Advising

Students may undertake an independent study course by mutual agreement with any faculty member for up to (i.e., no more than) 3 credit hours per semester, and no more than 5 credit hours per degree plan. Independent study is not to be used as a replacement for core requirements unless approved by the Faculty Director. Such approvals are rarely granted. If you plan to take an Independent Study, please return this signed form to the ITP office.

Research Advising

Each Master's student undertakes a significant research project as part of either a Capstone or Thesis project. Any faculty member can serve as a Capstone advisor. Faculty members that have the appropriate appointment to serve as Thesis advisors are identified on their description pages. The department is happy to consider requests to add Thesis advising appointments for any faculty member. To initiate the process, please ask that faculty member to contact the Faculty Director.
