Roger Marks serves as Senior Vice President - Industry Relations with NextWave Broadband, Inc. In 1998, he initiated the effort that led to the IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access <http://wirelessman.org/>, chairing that standardization group since inception and leading it through the development of the WirelessMAN standard for broadband wireless metropolitan area networks. He was the technical editor for IEEE Standard 802.16 and IEEE Standard 802.16.2, and he serves on the Executive Committee of the IEEE 802 LAN/MAN Standards Committee. Marks received his AB in Physics from Princeton and his PhD in Applied Physics from Yale, subsequently serving in a postdoctoral position at Delft University of Technology in The Netherlands. His spent 17 years as a physicist with the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, Colorado. A co-author of over 80 publications, including the 2006 book "WirelessMAN: Inside the IEEE 802.16 Standard for Wireless Metropolitan Area Networks," he received the 2003 Individual Governmental Vision Award from the Wireless Communications Association and a 1995 IEEE Technical Field Award. He developed the IEEE Radio and Wireless Conference (RAWCON) and chaired it from 1996 through 1999. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and served as an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for seven years.
