Mohammad Shamim started his career as a design engineer at Carrier Telecom Industries (CTI), Islamabad, Pakistan (A subsidiary of Siemens Germany) in October 1983 after graduating from University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, Pakistan. As a design engineer he designed several telephony products such as single channel VHF radio, microprocessor based electronic PABX, carrier amplifiers and pilot receivers for FDM network, Service channel interface for earth satellite station.
During his studies with ITP he worked as a part time programmer in the Microwave Labs at the University of Colorado at Boulder where he developed and released a software package 2D-CAP for two-dimensional circuit analysis. The package was written in Fortran and used by TRW, HP, Motorola and AT&T lab. After his studies he joined Carrier Telephone Industries as Head of their R&D department and managed a group of 20 graduate engineers and five allied staff for system engineering and product development activities for another five years and developed skills for system design and integration.
In association with few friends he launched a telecom company, Comcept Private Limited in September 1996 with seed money of US$ 15,000 pooled by 10 individuals. The company was established from scratch with 8 staff and targeted to developed telecom products for local market need. This was the turning point of his career as an entrepreneur.
Those first two years were very tough for the company. However, the deregulation of the telecom market of Pakistan, which started in 1998, allowed several telecom operators to come in to existence and the business opportunities for local companies grew rapidly. Comcept was able tap those opportunities and developed several telecom products and as the Director of Marketing, Mr. Shamim improved the sales revenue from $ 0.5m to 1.05m in the financial year 1998-1999. The company achieved tremendous growth of 250 percent in sales revenue i.e. $ 3.64m in the proceeding year 1999-2000 with net profit of 39% and there was 100% increase in the customer base. The progress in sales and expansion in customer base kept growing in the fiscal year 2000-2001 and achieved 100% increase in sales revenue i.e. 7.24m with net profit of 46%. The Board of Directors/Shareholders appointed Mohammad as Chief Executive as well as Director of Marketing in September 2001.
As the CEO and Director of Marketing, Mohammad is responsible for the complete business of Comcept as well as being a Board member of its subsidiaries and a joint venture involved in the strategic long term planning and business decision. The company has 300+ engineers, marketing, finance and other trained staff in its four regional offices and head office at Islamabad.

Accomplishment # 1:
- The First Subsidiary of Comcept “Symbia Pvt. Limited” was establish in 2002 under his guidance to provide complete turnkey solution of Telecom network as Comcept is focused to the development and marketing of terminal equipment only whereas the complete Telecom network i.e. transmission, switch and access elements and telecom services were completely ignored by Comcept.
- Comcept invested an amount of $ 300K in 2002 as seed money to the company and today the company has grown-up as key telecom solution provider in cross connect, soft switches, radio equipment, complete suits for data network and access network. The Company has consistent annual sales revenue of $ 3.0m to $4.0m for last three consecutive years with profitability of more than 20% every year.
Accomplishment # 2:
- As a business strategy took initiative to set-up a joint venture in the field of Telecom Operation in 2004 and established a Company Burraq Telecom (presently know as Wi-Tribe (Pakistan) in collaboration with two other partners from Telecom operation.
- Raised equity of $ 4.0m for the joint venture and played a pivotal role to acquire security bond of $ 12m in the form of SBLC from the Bank being the prerequisite to get License from PTA (Pakistan Telecom Authority) for LDI (long Distance International) and WLL (Wireless Local Loop) operations. Actively participated in the bidding of frequency by PTA for WLL operation and acquire the frequency band of 3.5GHz for all 14 telecom regions of Pakistan at bid value of $ 1.2m.
- Involved in the selection of soft switches and other NGN network equipment for the LDI operation and the LDI operation was launched with in the specified time of one year and get released the SBLC from PTA. It was one of the major mile stone for the joint venture.
Accomplishment # 3:
- To cope with the changing business scenarios specially from year 2005 in Pakistan due to the cut throat price of Chinese telecom products and open door policy for import of telecom products the survivability of local telecom equipment manufacturer become impossible. Realizing the real threat the diversification of business in alternate energy sector was taken in early 2006 and initiative was taken to develop CNG/LPG dispensers with innovative hanging displays and computerized monitoring system. The product was developed under his guidance and got approval from authorized regulatory bodies and launched in 2008 which is become main revenue stream for Comcept.
- Furthermore, in the year 2007, Comcept took initiative to establish three CNG stations with the investment of Rs. 50m to 60m for each station. After going through the hectic processors and governmental approvals two stations are operational and providing a dependable revenue stream every months.
