Bio

Courtney Cowgill has over 25 years of business experience, including three years in an international accounting firm, two years in Internal Audit and almost nine years in a financial role for a variety of companies. Additional work experience includes processing operations for a credit card company and an agency of the Federal government, controller and CFO for residential and commercial construction companies, Operational Director of an architecture firm and Field Accounting Officer for the Resolution Trust Company. In her last position, she served as the Executive Director of Program Management for AT&T Broadband Advanced Engineering Group. Courtney was the Program Manager for the Interactive Television Project and the Digital Television national launch. Courtney has supervised groups from 5 to 400 professionals at any one time in her working career.

Courtney is very active with several local and national non-profit organizations.

  • She is the president of the Metropolitan State College Alumni Association.
  • Courtney is the first and current president of the Ernst & Young Alumni Association for the Rocky Mountain region.
  • She served as the 2000 President for Rocky Mountain Chapter of Women in Cable and Telecommunications (WICT). Courtney is an alumna of the 1998-99 class of the prestigious Betsy Magness Leadership Institute where only 26 women are accepted from more than 450 applicants annually.
  • She was Chair of the Colorado Women's Chamber of Commerce (CWCC) in 1999.
    Courtney served as 1998 - 1999 Chair of the Colorado Lottery Commission. She was appointed to that Commission by Governor Roy Romer in May 1995 for a 4 year term.
    She served as Co-Chair for the Colorado Women's Leadership Coalition (CWLC) for 1996, a state-wide organization coordinating the activities of 100+ women's organizations in Colorado.
  • She served as the Denver chapter president of the American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) in 1988-89 and National President in 1993 - 1994.
    Courtney is charter member of the Colorado Centennial Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) serving as Chapter president in 1989-90 and a Vice President for the IMA's Rocky Mountain Council in 1993-94

Courtney has received several awards and professional recognition during her professional career.

  • 2001 Woman of Achievement Award from ASWA nationally;
  • 1999 Corporate Woman of the Year Award from the Women's Vision Foundation and the Denver Post;
  • 1998 Women Leader of Excellence Award from ASWA, WICT and the CWCC. She is the only woman to receive nominations from three separate organizations;
  • 1997 Woman of Distinction award winner from the Mile Hi Council of the Girl Scouts; and
  • She was listed in the Denver Business Journal's "Who's Who in Denver Women" for 1996, 1997 and "Who's Who in Telecommunications" in 1999. She was also listed in the Colorado Business Magazine as an "Emerging Leader in Telecommunications for 1998."

Education

MS, Telecommunications, University of Colorado at Boulder (2002). Courtney is one of approximately 10 accountants in Colorado with four certifications: CPA certificate (1975), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certificate (1981), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certificate (1983), and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) certificate (September 1998).
